UAE cabinet approves opening of the embassy in Tel Aviv

According to the international news agency, on the social networking website Twitter, the government of the United Arab Emirates has announced that it has received the approval of the cabinet and will soon open an embassy in Tel Aviv. The statement did not provide further details.

The two countries reached a landmark agreement in August last year to establish diplomatic relations. Former US President Donald Trump mediated the deal.

A joint statement issued by the United Arab Emirates and Israel following the signing of the agreement stated that "this historic diplomatic breakthrough will promote peace in the Middle East."

Following the agreement, the two countries have signed a number of other agreements to strengthen cooperation in a number of areas. The first flight to the UAE arrived in Tel Aviv in October last year, a month after diplomatic relations returned to normal.

On the return flight, Etihad Airways was boarded by Israeli tourism experts who spent two days in the United Arab Emirates. According to the big news, Arab News has given permission to open an embassy in Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel. No further explanation was forthcoming.

Israel and the United Arab Emirates established relations in August 2020, followed by Islamic countries Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco.

The Israeli government claims Jerusalem as its capital, but Israel's claim is not recognized by the international community, which is why most countries have embassies in Tel Aviv.
