Tejas is being manufactured by India's oldest and most famous company, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The JF-17 was built by the Aeronautical Complex (PAC) at Kamra, near the Pakistani capital Islamabad. It is also made by China National Aero Technology Import and Export Corporation, a Chinese company.

The Pakistan Air Force said in a statement that the JF-17 fighter jet technology was jointly developed by China and Pakistan. The statement said that each aircraft has the capacity to carry up to 3630 kg of weapons while the aircraft can fly at a speed of 2200 km per hour. The aircraft can hit its target from a distance of 1350 km.

Colonel Sanjay Srivastava retired from the Indian Army's Gorkha Regiment, told the BBC that the Tejas fighter jet could carry a load of eight to nine tonnes. In addition, they can fly at speeds of up to 52,000 feet, faster than the speed of sound, from Mach 1.6 to Mac 1.8.
